Rangiya (Assam), May 22 2009: Local Congress leaders today urged party supremo Sonia Gandhi not to give berth to Bodoland People's Front (BPF) MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary in the new government at the Centre.
Congress Block Committee in Rangiya sent a fax to the UPA leader for excluding Bwiswmuthiary, the Kokrajhar MP, accusing him of being responsible for the defeat of Mangaldoi Congress candidate Madhab Rajbanshi. The local unit of the NSUI also sent a similar memorandum to the Congress chief.
Rangiya (Assam), March 26 2009: The police arrested 26 Congress supporters along with the Rangiya block Congress president for allegedly assaulting a government officer and ransacking his office in Assam's Kamrup (rural) district yesterday.
The Congress supporters, led by block president Mrinal Deka, ransacked the office of Rangiya Block Development Officer (BDO) P C Burman and assaulted him and two other staff members of the office, the BDO alleged.
An FIR has been filed against the Congress workers, including Deka and they have been taken into custody, police sources said.
